I have worked in several different types of work environments.
Examples include: my past work in hosting and technical support at GoDaddy; various technical and web-related roles at Pier2 Marketing; work on Free the Line projects; and audio production at LMG. In each role, I have had to assist individuals with learning how to operate various systems to complete tasks efficiently in the real world.
First, ask yourself "What do I wish to accomplish?"
Before determining what form of technology to use or develop a new process flow, I typically begin by considering how people seek assistance or make requests, why they sometimes struggle to make decisions, and what information the next individual in the chain requires to perform his/her task. When conducting technical research and interviewing the people performing the tasks, it is crucial to conduct both simultaneously.
Transform your knowledge into something beneficial
Training materials, documentation, and escalation procedures are fundamental components of any system's design. A user having a clear plan of action, an understanding of why he/she needs to follow it, and a method to verify its success is an excellent resource. During my career, I have produced training materials and documented procedures for Customer Service and Production related tasks.
Create a link between delivery and ongoing maintenance
Just because a website is active or an integration responds once does not signify that the project is complete. A system will continue to provide value based upon creating accountability for the system via periodic evaluations and clearly defined transitional points between team members. I incorporate this operational viewpoint in both Web Development and Project Management.
What I currently do
